Terms of Service

Last updated August 27, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Scriptural ("the App," "we," "our," "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App. These Terms apply to all versions of Scriptural, including the web app, desktop app (Windows/macOS), and native mobile apps (iOS and Android).

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use Scriptural. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a user is under 13, we will promptly delete their account and data.

3. Account Registration

Certain features require you to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information as necessary. You must notify us immediately through the contact form if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. Use of the App

Scriptural is provided for personal, non-commercial Bible study and church worship purposes. You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful or unauthorized purpose.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App.
  • Circumvent any technical limitations or security measures.
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the App or its content.
  • Distribute malicious code or interfere with the App's operation.
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App or its content.
  • Misuse AI features to generate content that is harmful, abusive, or violates applicable law.

5. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of content you create within the App (notes, highlights, prayers, bookmarks). By storing this content on our servers, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, back up, and display it to you across your devices. If you share content via the App's sharing features, you grant us a license to make that content accessible to the intended recipients.

You are solely responsible for any content you create, share, or transmit. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms.

6. AI-Powered Features

Scriptural includes AI-powered features such as word studies, scripture Q&A, reference finding, verse image generation, and copilot tools. These features use third-party AI services (including Google Gemini, OpenAI, and Deepgram).

Accuracy disclaimer. AI-generated content is provided for informational and devotional purposes only. It may contain errors or inaccuracies and should not be relied upon as a substitute for personal study, scholarly research, or professional theological advice. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content.

Data sent to AI providers. When you use AI features, the relevant text (verse text, your query, or audio for transcription) is sent to our AI providers to generate a response. Please review our Privacy Policy for details on how this data is handled.

7. Intellectual Property

The Scriptural app, including its design, code, graphics, logos, and original content, is owned by Scriptural and protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. Bible text is provided through licensed sources (API.Bible / American Bible Society) and is subject to their respective licensing terms.

Nothing in these Terms grants you any right, title, or interest in the App other than the limited right to use it in accordance with these Terms.

8. Third-Party Services

Scriptural integrates with third-party services including Supabase, Google Gemini, OpenAI, Deepgram, API.Bible, Resend, and PostHog. Your use of the App may be subject to those services' terms and policies. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of third-party services.

9. Pricing & Donations

Scriptural is free to use. There are no paid plans or subscriptions, and no feature is unlocked by paying. If you choose to support running costs, you may do so on the web through an external giving page, governed by the terms of that service, or in the mobile apps through an optional tip, offered in several amounts as an in-app purchase on the App Store or Google Play and governed by that store's terms. A tip is a gift: it unlocks nothing and is not refundable by us. If you would like to make a larger gift you can contact us from the app; any such gift is arranged with you directly, outside the app, and equally unlocks nothing. We reserve the right to introduce paid features in the future, with reasonable notice.

10. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SCRIPTURAL, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $50 USD, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Scriptural and its team from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

You may delete your account (and all associated data) yourself at any time from inside the app — see Delete Your Account for the exact steps.

14. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association.

15. Apple App Store Additional Terms

If you downloaded Scriptural from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply:

  • These Terms are between you and Scriptural, not Apple Inc. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services with respect to the App.
  • In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability claims, consumer protection claims, or intellectual property infringement claims.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist-supporting" country, and you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

16. Google Play Additional Terms

If you downloaded Scriptural from Google Play, the following additional terms apply:

  • These Terms are between you and Scriptural, not Google LLC. Google is not responsible for the App or its content.
  • Your use of the App must comply with Google Play's current Terms of Service.
  • Google is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

17. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

18. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

19. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Scriptural regarding your use of the App and supersede any prior agreements.
